Followers of Jesus – Day 15
Should we too be telling those who call themselves believers? There are many who have left the world wide church for many reasons. There are those who have not joined a church for many other reasons. These people need to see the church doing what Jesus told us to do.
Jesus sent out the twelve with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
On Day 1 of this study we looked at the first verse of this chapter, noting the authority Jesus gave to His disciples. Today we see that He was very specific about where they should go. To the lost sheep of Israel. (verse 6)
Those “lost sheep” had lost heart and thought their Messiah would never appear. The disciples were to travel and show those along the way that He had arrived, and was not just doing miracles Himself but giving the power to others to do the same. That was a whole new concept for the Israelites whose experience and history had shown that only prophets and priests could do those things!
If we leap forward to today, many believers are expecting the second coming of the same long awaited Messiah to change everything. Are we the equivalent of those Israelites? Just going on with our daily lives, and praying the Messiah will come soon. Jesus’ message to His disciples sent them to believers to practice what He had shown them.
I believe the same message is for us today. “Go and do…. Go and tell…”!
Should we too be telling those who call themselves believers? There are many who have left the world wide church for many different reasons. There are those who haven’t joined a church for many other reasons. These people need to see the church doing what Jesus told us to do. They need healing for their hurts and disappointments.
Pray today for the Lord to show you people around you who need to hear about Jesus. Those who have rejected the church for whatever reason. Pray for the confidence to tell them The Truth. Then go!
