Creation – Day 5

Genesis 1:6-8

And God said “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky”. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

The Thought

It is hard to imagine this scene, because we cannot understand the situation at all. We were told in verse 1 that the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters, so whatever the earth looked like it was completely hidden under the water. Even after the light appeared on day 1, there was still nothing to see but water!

So God separated this water into two expanses, one above and one below with sky between them. But when was there ever water above the sky? We know scientifically where the rain comes from and up to today no astronauts or space vehicles have ever come back saying they found water.

Could it have been this water that came down at the time of Noah’s flood? It is possible, and the more we study the early chapters of the Bible, the more it seems likely. Did God put it up there in the first place because He knew before time began, that He would need to destroy the evil on the earth? He is an All Knowing God, and we have extremely limited understanding of His ways.

The second day came and went, but there is still no sun through which we know whether it is day or night!!

Action

Pray for more understanding of the magnitude of God, and marvel in the fact that this God who created all that we see, experience, and often take for granted, knows you and loves you.

Ask Him to help you believe the Bible account of creation and not the scientists’ version.
