Children of God – Day 21

Romans 8:16

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

The Thought

In our readings for the last two days we have been looking in detail at the verse previous to today’s reading. This short sentence makes us realise that Paul understood the difficulties of convicting ourselves that we are children of God. He had gone through those same doubts himself.

Paul often refers to himself as being the most unworthy of believers because of his previous life when he actively killed his fellow Jews for believing in Jesus. But Holy Spirit did an amazing work in Paul’s life, and called him to write most of the New Testament.

Many of us have doubts in our daily lives as to what God will do for us. Often when people are suffering, for whatever reason, they feel abandoned by God. But if we take time to listen to His Spirit, we will discover the reason for the trials we are facing.

It is the Holy Spirit that calms our fears, Holy Spirit who settles our doubts. The quiet whisper of Holy Spirit will speak to your spirit if you allow Him to. That means we have to sit alone with Him. Get our minds calm and our ears listening only to His voice. We have to banish other thoughts and concentrate on what Jesus might be saying to us personally.

This chapter in Romans has much to say about being a child of God.

Action

Take a few moments to read the whole chapter, and ask Holy Spirit to minister this truth to your spirit.

Pray for your spirit to be receptive to all that Holy Spirit wants to say for you or for someone else you might be praying for at the moment.

Pray for the truth of the Word to become real for you, and for your church.

Praise God for His Word that speaks to every situation, and Praise Him for Holy Spirit, the counsellor, who speaks wisdom to your spirit.
