Angels – Day 7

Genesis 19:2

“My lords,” Lot said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.”

The Thought

These angels are the same “men” who visited Abraham to tell him of the future birth of Isaac. They went from one mission to another, and this time they were looking for righteous men living in Sodom. At the gate they met the elders of the town, Lot was the first on his feet and invited them into his home. (See yesterday’s message) As we read on in this chapter, we read the very sad story of the sins of the whole town already spoken of in Genesis 13:13.

Homosexuality was rife, and there was no hiding it (Genesis 19:5).

As the men of the town revealed their intentions, the men invited into Lot’s house revealed their true identity and struck all the men with blindness (v11).

This is a sad story showing the weakness of Lot as well as the sins of the men of the town. But it does convince us of several facts.

Angels are powerful and sometimes sent to rescue us.

They can appear as “normal” people.

They are obedient servants of The Living God who punishes sin and rescues good people.

God is the same yesterday today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His attitude to sin never changes. He is merciful and He is just. He gives us second and third chances, but if we do not change our ways, we can only take the consequences of our rejection of Him.

Action

Praise God today for the unseen angels that have protected you along life’s way.

Thank Him that He never changes, and loves us no matter how far we stray from His path.

Pray for forgiveness and open eyes for those you know who are involved in “the sins of Sodom”.
