Doors & Gates – Day 29

Psalm 24:7

Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of Glory may come in.

The Thought

Let’s stay with this psalm for another day because it is so encouraging and has much to say to us today.

Many of us, as we have travelled whether locally or internationally have visited churches and cathedrals, as well as perhaps Buddhist temples and Muslim mosques. We have entered awe-inspiring buildings planned and decorated to the glory of their God. My guess is that most of us have never entered a cathedral through the main door.

Most of these buildings have huge doors which have not been opened for many years. The hinges may be rusty, and covered with cobwebs, and in some places maybe the keys have been lost. But if one of the world’s leading monarchs was to arrive on a state visit the doors would be dusted, painted and opened wide for the ceremonial entry. That’s what is being portrayed in these verses.

Some of our lives are enclosed behind “ancient doors”. All of us have past experiences, both good and bad. Some of which we have not thought about or “opened the door to” for a very long time. Jesus wants to help us open those doors and let His light in. He wants to enter in His glory into our lives today. Verse 3 asks “who can stand in His holy place?” And verse 4 gives us the answer: “The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god”.

Action

Read this psalm aloud and slowly today and be blessed and encouraged that you can be a part of the entourage when Jesus returns in glory. Also that you will be there in Heaven for the Mariage supper of this beloved king.
