Doors & Gates – Day 27

Esther 3:3-4

Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply.

The Thought

Much later in the story of Esther we find another murderous plan.

Because Mordecai refused to bow down before the king’s “right hand man” Haman, he was “blacklisted” and Haman became so angry that he decided to kill him. As anger often does, it spread and grew in Haman’s thoughts so that he decided he would annihilate all the Jewish people. How many times in history has there been a plan to destroy “God’s chosen people”? It has never worked and it never will. They will be His chosen people to the end of time.

God had His man on the job in Esther’s time. Mordecai heard of the plan and went as near as he could to the king’s gate. No-one in mourning was allowed to sit there, but he got near enough for people who recognised him to carry the news to Esther who immediately sent him clothes to wear (Esther 4:4).

Eventually Esther was persuaded to appeal to the king, but she would only agree to that if people were praying and fasting for her success. Mordecai organised that (Esther 4:17).

The next 2 chapters recount the details of Haman’s plans and the way they were thwarted. By God’s plan, but by using His obedient very nervous servant. The Jewish people still celebrate Esther’s success each year in what they call the “Feast of Purim”.

Action

Thank God for His plans to save His people, that they have never changed. Pray for the Messianic jewish community which is growing fast world wide.

We must pray for believers in influential places today to stand up for what is right.

Pray for yourself and believers you know, that if called by The Lord to do something extraordinary, each one will have the strength to be obedient.
