Creation – Day 17

Genesis 1:26

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our own image, in Our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.

The Thought

This is the first time that God says “Let US” create something. In the previous days of creation, He has always said “Let there be…”. Whoever the “Us” is, we were created to be like them.

Each human is a three part being. We are spirit beings and we have a soul (that makes our character). Each of us lives in a body of flesh which we will leave behind when our soul and spirit leave at our earthly death.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you are descended from monkeys, apes, gorillas or any other creature. We already mentioned that briefly on day 12. The Bible is clear that everything was made according to its kind. The theory of evolution remains a theory.

The other important thing that we must learn from this verse is that mankind was called to rule over all the creatures that God had created.

Action

Two things to contemplate on as we go through our day today.

  • Our likeness to the threefold Godhead.
Think about your spirit and your soul, the parts of your being that you don’t see. What do others think of you? Can they tell that you are a Christian because of your nature, the things you say, and do, your attitudes?
  • The command to rule over all created beings.
Start with small things. Try telling the wasps or bees that dare to enter your property that they must leave, in Jesus’ name! It works when you say it with confidence. We do that regularly at home!!
