Christmas – Day 3

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The Thought

Hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, Isaiah promised a Saviour, as did many of the other prophets. I like the opening verses of this chapter … “Nevertheless there will be no more gloom”! Don’t we long for those days when there will be “no more gloom!”?
From our 21st century perspective we can see that only part of Isaiah’s prophecy has come to fulfilment. The government of the world does not look to be on His shoulders. On the contrary, if we think about it, we can see that many of the governments of the world are working to avoid that at all costs.
But believers across the globe are praying for the second coming of Jesus when He will take over and rule forever. Many are currently seeing in the signs of the times that this event could soon be upon us.
Whatever our perspective on that subject, we can definitely look forward with confidence to the completion of time as we know it and Jesus coming in Glory to take His Bride.

Action

Reflect today on what has already been fulfilled and what is yet to come. Praise God that He will win in the end. And praise Him that you recognise Jesus in many of those names from Isaiah.

Meditate during your day on the person who is “The wonderful counsellor, mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.” Be ready to call on Him as any one of those characteristics as you go through your day.
