Thought 16

Proverbs 12:4

A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

In our previous thought we suggested that our misdeeds can result in our own ill health, now we see that they can result in someone else’s poor health. In Thought 1 we talked about the “one flesh” of marriage. Here we see the effects of being joined with a “bad lot”. It is encouraging that the Bible tells the same story all the way through. God never changes, and ‘one flesh’ means ‘one flesh’.

When we do things wrong, we affect not only our own health, but the health of those close to us. Does your behaviour bless those around you or injure them? Are you hurting because of someone close to you who is in sin?

Pray for those around you for the Lord’s healing in every aspect of their lives, and for the repercussions in the family. Pray for the marriages in your church to be healthy and happy.

Praise God for His design of the family.

Thought 17

Proverbs 14:30

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

When we look around in today’s society, there is always something to be envious of. There is always somebody with ‘more’ and ‘bigger’, but having ‘more and bigger’ does not necessarily make for peace and tranquillity. Peace in our hearts does not come from the outside, but the inside. Jesus is the only one who can put real peace in our hearts. Do you know His peace in every part of your life today?

Pray for Him to remove all threads of envy or jealousy from you and to give you His peace which passes all understanding and works in all circumstances.

Praise God that when we learn to live with Him in our hearts He will keep us in perfect peace.

Thought 18

Proverbs 16:24

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

We have great power to heal others by using words to bless them. None of us really know what the person next to us is living through. Whether it is a colleague at work or the person before us in the supermarket queue, but we have the power to improve their day a little, and if we can believe what this verse says, to improve their health a little too. Compliments make us smile on the inside. Do you dare to encourage a stranger today?

Pray for the confidence to say the right thing to someone you don’t know today, to bless them and to encourage them. Pray to be a person who uses words to bless and not curse.

Praise Jesus that on the cross He changed curse into blessing.
