1 John – Day 5

1 John 2:1-2

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

The Thought

This is a good summary of the most important truth of the gospel. Everything we have ever done wrong has been paid for by Jesus on the cross. Isn’t that wonderful? Every white lie, every bad thought, every criticism of others. Every time we have been self-centred and not “loved our neighbour as we love ourselves”. All those thoughts, actions and words have been wiped away and exist no more if we are children of Father God who sent His Son to die for the wrong doings of all the world.

Romans 8:34 tells us Jesus who died, – more than that – was raised to life, is at the right hand of God and is interceding for us.

Jesus has a full time job up there in Heaven!

Our job here on earth is to let people know that their sins are forgiven. To share the truth of a loving Saviour who did everything in His power to make a way to Heaven for us.

Remember the reason that John has told us this; so that we will not sin!! He obviously thinks that Jesus has plenty of others to pray for and thinks we should lighten His load a little and not give Him any more work!

Action

As you go about your life today, glance at each person you see. In your mind, tell them that Jesus is praying for them at the side of His Father in Heaven! If you are bold enough speak that truth to them. If not, then pray for that realisation for them.

Thank Jesus that He is praying for you.
