1 John – Day 21

1 John 4:4-6

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of falsehood.

The Thought

The theme of yesterday continues with an explanation, Jesus living in us through His Spirit is the answer. To everything! John makes it sound simple, but for us living on the earth in the 21st century it is not so clear.

Many believe that we are living through the beginning of the “tribulation” promised by Jesus in John 16:33 in the middle of Jesus’ farewell speech to His disciples, and referred to in Revelation 7:14 where we don’t hear what form the tribulation will take, but do hear that many will survive it.

The Antichrist referred to in yesterday’s reading has always been around, but there is coming very soon a time when a world leader will emerge who is totally against Christians. We need to be led by Holy Spirit in order to know how to survive in these coming days. We need open eyes to recognise what is really happening behind the world of media and politics. And we need ears tuned to the Holy Spirit to survive in the coming days.

Action

Pray today for an understanding of world events from God’s point of view. Ask Him to speak to you through His word, and help you to “recognise the Spirit of truth and the spirit of lies” referred to in our verses for today.

Praise God that “He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world”.
