The Soul and the Spirit – Day 23

Philippians 2:1-2

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

The Thought

In a Spirit-filled church we will usually find like minded people. The members can be from very different backgrounds, different nationalities, different education, different interests, but the Holy Spirit of God working with the spirit of each individual is what brings unity. A spiritual unity that nothing can take away.

There may be theological differences, but if a person’s spirit is renewed and co-operating with Holy Spirit, then there is a spiritual togetherness and singleness of purpose that can be almost tangible. The reason the church on earth exists is to pray, praise and bring Heaven to earth (Matthew 6:10), but that is rarely experienced unless the majority of believers are in unity with Holy Spirit. (Of course there are exceptions when Holy Spirit gives us a surprise visit!)

That is Paul’s point from the first verse of this chapter. It is a challenging chapter and worth reading several times.

Action

Read Philippians 2 today and pray for unity with Holy Spirit in your church, and pray for spiritual unity with other christian churches in your area.

Praise God for His Holy Spirit that brings unity of purpose. Praise Him that because of the way of the world with division, woke-ism and all that that entails, Jesus is healing the divisions in the church, and after many centuries of separating, Christians across the denominations are becoming what the verse today encourages us to be; like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
