The Last – Day 20

John 6:39, 40, 44

And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day.

For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.

The Thought

One of the aims of the disciple John as he wrote this gospel was to give all who would read it a future and a hope. That is a theme running through the Bible and which was stated clearly by God through an Old testament prophet:- I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

In the three verses today John is intent on helping us to understand that there will be a “last day”!

These are the words of Jesus. His desire was what inspired John to write his gospel which is so different to the others. John seems much more interested in helping us to understand who Jesus was, more than what He did which was the emphasis of the other gospel writers.

John is the writer who gives us the “I am” sayings of Jesus:-

I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).

I am the Bread (John 6:35, 41, 48, 51).

I am the Light of the world (John 8:12, 9:5).

I am the gate (John 10:7, 9).

I am the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14).

I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).

I am the true vine (John 15:1, 5).

Action

Think on those verses and be encouraged as you go through your day today.
