Children of God – Day 19

Romans 8:15

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

The Thought

When each of us, as individuals, makes the decision to become a Christian, we receive “the Spirit of sonship”, or the “Spirit of adoption” who confirms to us that we are children of God. But only if we listen carefully to His voice.

For over 2000 years, the church has prayed to “Our Father”. Unfortunately, multitudes of its members have never received the understanding of what that really means.

If you have been adopted by a loving father in the earthly world, or if you have had a loving natural father, who was present throughout most of your childhood, you will know a daddy who has lifted you onto his knee, listened to your stories, shared your joys and calmed your fears. You will know a father you can laugh with, and cry with when you need a touch of comfort. A parent on whom you can call at any time, who will provide for your every need as far as he is able. So for you it is easier to understand than for others, especially those who have had a bad relationship with their father; those who have been abused, neglected, or regularly criticized.

Action

Pray today for a closer walk with your loving heavenly Father, beginning today.

Read Matthew 6 and pray the Our Father (Matthew 6:9-13), with a new understanding.

The verse today talks of being “a slave to fear”. Ask your Heavenly Father to show you what you are afraid of, and to help you overcome those fears today.

Praise God again that He is your Father who is longing for the reality of adoption to be true in your life.
